Fight Against Canadian DMCA

The Canadian minority Conservative Government made it clear in their Throne speech earlier this fall that Copyright Reform was a priority. Recent media reports indicate that a Copyright Reform bill will be tabled within the next couple of weeks and people close to the process have revealed that this bill will go beyond way beyond the US counterpart's DMCA law. It appears that this new legislation will come with very stringent anti-circumvention provisions that prohibit the use of tools or techniques that open files with digital locks, even when the files in question belong to you.

Canadian Law Professor Michael Geist has devised a concise list of "30 things you can do to stop the Canadian DMCA" and we have narrowed that list down to the following 3 key steps you can take to preserve your consumer rights in the shadow of such powerful legislation in 10 minutes or less.


		SEND A LETTER AND HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD Digital Copyright Canada has created a simple web-based letter wizard which will carefully craft and email a letter on your behalf to your Member of Parliament. START THE LETTER WIZARD Mailing a personalized letter physically to your MP and the Minister of Industry (Jim Prentice) and Minister of Canadian Heritage (Josée Verner) will have a much greater impact so if you have the time please download the letter templates we have prepared.
